Spray-applied radiant barriers or IRCCs (Interior Radiation Control Coating) is applied to the undersurface of roof decking, and especially recommended in warmer climate zones.

Coating the underside of the roof with an IRCC lessens the amount of heat that can radiate into the building. The IRCC actually changes the surface characteristics of the substrate to which it is applied, making plywood, concrete or steel act more like Reynold’s WrapTM.

Spray on Radiant Barrier material safely reflects up to 80% of the radiant heat from the sun. This means that it never enters your attic space to begin with.

Why Spray-On Versus Foil?

  • 20% reduction in the A/C units run time during peak hours • 57% efficiency improvement in the cooled air delivered through the air ducts

*Actual dollar savings and ROI time can vary widely due to a plethora of factors including, but not limited to: climate zone, size of building, number of stories and amount of conditioned space, utility usage, building direction and slope of roof, tree shading, roof color, decking material, current insulation and ventilation packages, and much more. The critical measurement is that thermal emittance value. The lower the emissivity, the less heat is allowed to radiate into the building. Just like standard insulations have an R-value (the higher the better), radiant barriers and IRCCs have an “e-value” (the lower the better). How that ultimately affects the utility bill, however, will be different from house to house and building to building.
